What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a 5000 year old traditional system of health from India. The word Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit word for life (Ayur) and knowledge/ science (Veda). Together, they form the term Ayurveda which can be interpreted as the knowledge or science of life.

The philosophy of this incredible system revolves around balance. The mind, body and spirit all have to be in harmony in order to achieve positive health results. This philosophy can be further broken down into 3 distinct elements or principles called Doshas (life forces or energies).

  1. Vata (air)

  2. Pitta (fire)

  3. Kapha (earth and water)

So even in hair care, Ayurveda takes a holistic approach in achieving natural healthy hair. In simple terms, you need to:

  1. Use natural hair care products

  2. Eat a healthy and green diet

  3. Relax, be positive and workout

Ayurvedic tips for healthy hair

Cleanse hair and scalp
To maintain healthy hair, keep your scalp clean in order to avoid itchiness and clogging of hair follicles. Always use a gentle and natural shampoo every other day. Wash your hair with lukewarm instead of really cold water. Make sure to follow that up with a natural conditioner. Afterwards, allow your hair to dry naturally. Don’t forget to trim your hair in order to tame split ends.

Get enough sleep
Sometimes hair grays prematurely at a younger age due to inadequate sleep. To avoid this it is recommended to get at least 6 hours of sleep. When it comes to the health of your hair, enough sleep is as paramount as nutrients are to your body. Disruption to your body clock could alter significant processes. You run the risk of negatively impacting tissue repair and other system reorganization processes. This could lead to unhealthy hair or even loss.

Adapt healthy dietary habits
Unhealthy dietary habits can hamper proper functioning of certain bodily systems. In the digestive system for example, your body might have difficulty breaking down certain foods. This could lead to difficulty in nutrient absorption, which could in turn cause clogging if your food is greasy etc. Therefore, it all starts with what you consume. Be sure to check your metabolism, digestion, bowel clearance and workout patterns.

Massage your scalp regularly
In order to stimulate healthy hair growth, massage your scalp once or twice a week. Use natural hair oils that help with moisturizing and nourish of both hair and scalp. Doing this regularly helps boost blood circulation whilst alleviating dryness. It also helps in de-stressing as well as re-establishing balance in your mind.

Ayurvedic herbs in Root2tip products

Amla
This is one of the powerful ingredients in our Root2tip ayurvedic hair growth products. Amla contains several minerals, amino acids and antioxidants including vitamin C. It not only helps prevent premature graying, but also hair fall. Moreover, Amla helps redefine lost hair lines while promoting growth of healthy and lustrous hair.

Brahmi
Brahmi is one of our best Ayurvedic herbs. It is amazing since it enhances both memory sharpness and hair growth. Brahmi is also critical in repairing damaged hair follicles and adding color to hair by delaying graying. When it comes to dealing with split ends, Brahmi plays a very important role as well. Lastly, it strengthens hair from root to end and thickens the strands.

Henna
Originally from ancient Egypt, henna plays an integral role as an Ayurveda herb for hair. In its natural and organic form, henna helps improve the general health of your hair. It does a splendid job in protecting the hair shaft and cuticle thus preventing breakage. Furthermore, henna conditions the hair, adds color and balances pH levels therefore keeping dandruff at bay.
